Colour Grading
The stage that decides the tone, texture and character of an image.
In short
Colour grading is the process of finishing an image through colour, contrast, texture and tone. It has two parts: correction, which matches shots across different cameras and lighting conditions, and the creative grade, which gives the piece its identity. Tugi handles both on commercial and music video work, including colour on Dove's #BeniEtiketlemeyiBırak campaign.
Colour grading is two separate jobs, and conflating them ruins the result. The first is correction: making shots from different cameras, hours and colour temperatures belong to the same world, keeping skin tones natural and closing exposure gaps. The second is creative: building a colour identity for the piece.
On commercial work the first stage is not negotiable — brand colour has to be accurate, skin has to look like skin, and the image has to hold up on whatever screen it opens on. Music video and narrative work leaves far more room for the creative stage.
Work is done from log and RAW sources. Masters are delivered in the right colour space for the target — a file prepared for sRGB web delivery and a broadcast-standard master are not the same thing.
Scope
| Stages | Correction (shot matching, skin tone, exposure), creative grade, masking and secondary correction |
|---|---|
| Source formats | Log, RAW and flat profiles; matching across multi-camera projects |
| Brand work | Brand colour compliance, product colour accuracy, consistency across a campaign |
| Delivery | Master in the correct colour space for web, social, broadcast or festival |
| Selected work | Dove #BeniEtiketlemeyiBırak — video production and colour grading |
How it works
1. Source check
Capture format, colour profile and frame rate are verified. Missing or corrupt files surface here.
2. Correction
Shots are matched, skin tones settled, exposure and white balance differences closed.
3. Creative grade
The tone is built: contrast curve, colour separation, texture and film emulation where wanted.
4. Secondary correction
Masks and tracking isolate faces, skies or products for separate treatment.
5. Delivery
The master is rendered in the target platform's colour space and checked on a reference display.

Frequently asked questions
Are colour correction and colour grading the same thing?
No. Correction is the technical stage that matches shots and makes skin tones natural. Grading gives the piece a creative colour identity. A healthy result does correction first, then the grade.
Can footage from a phone or entry-level camera be graded?
Yes, but with limited latitude. Log and RAW carry far more colour information; aggressive moves on a heavily compressed file produce banding and artefacts. The source sets the ceiling.
How do I know my brand colours will be accurate?
Share the colour values from your brand guidelines up front and product and logo colours are checked against them. A physical product sample can also be used as reference.
Can I book colour grading on its own?
Yes. Send a locked edit as a conformable export or project file and only the colour stage is carried out.
